Before I go into my regularly-scheduled post, I want to showcase just some of the charities you can donate to, that are fighting the good fight:

This is a very, very small list, but if you have any other charities that you'd like to showcase, let us know in the comments.

It's been a rough week. If you're like me, your mind needs to take a break from the all the ugly by setting your eyes on something beautiful.

I wanted to contribute positively and there's only one way I know how: movies. I was going to make a list of movies that help you escape from reality, but that didn't seem right. Instead, I complied a list of movies that are both incredible and will help fuel your activism:

Loving

This movie is about the historic Loving v. Virginia case that helped make the ban on interracial marriage unconstitutional. The relevance of this case is what makes this movie essential viewing. It's a humbling reminder of what we have to lose and what we must do to keep it safe.

Moonlight

Proven to be last year's best film with it's Oscar win for best picture, Moonlight is a great indie to sink yourself into. One of my favorite things about movies are when they show POC experiencing things only white people have been allowed to. Chiron seems like a unique character study, when in fact, he's telling the story of so many young POC.

Hidden Figures

This movie is the poster child for women empowerment. I feel like I can do anything when I watch this movie, which is a feeling we should all hold onto.

Zootopia

The plot is well thought out and funny, but that's not why Zootopia was one of my favorites last year. I went in thinking it would be just a kids movie, but it was so much more. I like to watch it from time to time because it gives me comfort to know that kids are going to grow up with a movie like this to teach them about equality.

Get Out

I can't make this kind of list without including Get Out (even though it seems like this movie tends to get scarier with each press conference). It's a perfect film that deserves more than one viewing.

The Big Sick

If you get the chance to see this movie, please do. Not only because it's going to get nominated for an Oscar, also because it showcases a Muslim family just being a normal, hilarious family.

Wonder Woman

I could watch a badass woman defeat Nazis every single day.
