Weekly Recap #27: The Announcement Edition

I'm more excited than usual this week. But I'll elaborate on why at the end of this post. Nothing -- not even that fever dream Cats trailer -- can bring me down. For now, let's get down to business.

#188 Monogamy

Available on Hulu

A man gets bored with his relationship and has a strange way of getting through it.

I really loved the cast of this movie, but the plot was boring. I understood what the message was, but I think that was the major problem. I don't know -- maybe I've been spoiled by ambiguity in the past few weeks, but I miss it.

#189 Kidnapping Stella

Available on Netflix

Two idiots try to kidnap a girl.

I've never been in a high-stress situation like this, but I'd bet I wouldn't be as obvious as everybody in this movie was when they tried to fool each other. I get that this movie is supposed to be suspenseful, but when most of the suspense comes from seeing if the characters will continue to act like a bunch of dummies -- I'm not a fan.

#190 The Baby-Sitters Club

Available on Amazon Prime

A club of young baby sitters deal with family, romance and school drama over the course of an hour.

This movie was as wild as a kids movie from the 90s could be. Imagine making a movie where girls band together to make enough money for their business to have a cool little office, then to have a minute long scene at the end where they shrug and decide to just keep their HQ in the same exact place as it was in the beginning. It was truly amazing to watch. I loved every ridiculous minute.

#191 Secret Obsession

Available on Amazon Prime

A woman suffers amnesia at the hands of an attacker and tries to remember her life with the help of her shady husband.

If you've seen the trailer or read the title, you can probably guess what happens in this movie. Despite the predictability, you need to see this movie for one reason: the Photoshopped pictures. I cackled when I saw them.

#192 Serenity

Available on Redbox

A drama about a woman trying to escape an abusive relationship with the help of her ex. In a bold move, the writers didn't even attempt to have it make sense.

I don't even know where to start with this movie. I have so many questions that I don't even feel qualified to say what it's about. The only thing I'll say, is that you have to just see it.

#193 Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four

Available on Hulu

A documentary following the journey of four San Antonio women to freedom.

Movies like this are terrifying to me. The fact that this could happen to anybody is bone-chilling.

#194 iBoy

Available on Netflix

Some kid gets shot trying to call 911 and his phone gets embedded into his head, giving him the ability to control technology.

I know, I know -- the plot sounds stupid. But I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It's one of the many good Netflix Originals that Netflix doesn't even attempt to promote for some reason.

#195 Shazam

Available on Redbox

Another superhero movie.

This movie was actually good, so naturally, I forgot until the end that it's a DC movie.

Alrighty folks -- I have an announcement. My brother and I started a podcast!

Our first episode comes out Thursday. In our first episode we (badly) explain what the show is about, but to intrigue you, here's the basics:

My brother, Anthony, and I live in different cities. In an attempt to keep in touch, we're going to call each other weekly to catch up by talking about our favorite subject: movies.

We're going to also have a movie club that you can follow along with and whatever else we think of as we go.

We're super excited to start this together and we hope you listen! Stay tuned on social media (Twitter) and (Instagram) for updates.
