Howdy! So I'm trash (but we all knew that) and only saw 3 and a half movies this week. The "half" part sounds weird but I'll explain:
I've yet to see the new version of The Lion King, so Sebastian and I went on Sunday morning to my local Cinemark after lunch. It started off well with the trailers because it included the infamous Cats trailer that terrified Sebastian. Then about 40 minutes in, we were evacuated. I'm still not completely sure what happened, but the 4 fire trucks outside didn't look good. We then scammed our way into more rain check tickets than we should have gotten and made our way home.
All-in-all, I feel like this was the best possible outcome from a trip to see the unnecessary reboot of a perfectly fine movie. I mean, I guess I get why they wanted to make it, but through the first act one question lingered: Did they have to make it?
#202 The Daughter
Available on Netflix
Two families learn a secret connection they share in the worst way possible.
I really love how understated this movie is. To me, what makes a perfect indie film is when you feel like you're taking a peek into somebody's actual life. This one felt so real and the stakes felt so high that I was sitting on the edge of my seat to see what happened next.
One of my favorite elements of drama is withholding. When a movie can give you plot with little to no words at all -- it makes me endlessly happy. I really loved this movie.
#203 Monsters and Men
Available on Hulu
A tragic shooting leaves a lasting impact on three men living in the same neighborhood.
I really wanted to feel more for this movie, but it was missing something for me. I loved the casting and how seamlessly it wove through the three main story lines.
I feel like if I watched it one more time, I'd find more that I liked about it, but right now, I think it was just fine.
#204 Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
In theaters
Tarantino's ode to old Hollywood.
I'm still not sure how I felt about this movie. I think it's another that I have to experience again, but my opinion now is that I really loved the acting and cinematography. I think I felt the same as the one I watched before -- when it ended, I just wasn't satisfied. I am, however obsessed with the real star of the movie -- a pit bull named Brandy.
Sorry for the short post. I hope you enjoyed it! And remember to listen to my podcast, The Brother Sister show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher. We have a new episode coming out Thursday!
See ya next week.
