When you start a blog, you have to base it on a subject you could write about at least once a week. Naturally, the subject of movies was my first choice. It wasn't until I had to come up with topics twice a week that I asked myself: why movies? What is it about them that made me want to watch 365 in a year? There's not just one thing that I love about movies, so here's an entire list:
the best writing teacher
I had to take one of those Myers-Briggs test that told me I was a "collector". This means exactly what you think it does, but it also includes the collection of information. As a writer, I'm always looking to collect ideas for characters, settings, themes or even names. Now that I write it out, it sounds like I'm saying I plagiarize, but I promise I don't. It's kind of like how established writers tell newcomers the key to great writing is to read. I watch and listen in my version (sometimes read if I can find the screenplay online.
my mind can take a break from itself
I have a brain that keeps going, especially when all I want to do is relax. To keep myself from falling into a pit of worry, distracting myself is the best way I know how to cope. Watching a movies guarantees a couple of hours where I get to be at peace.
movie theaters are among my favorite places in the world
I've moved around a lot and been to vastly different places, but the one thing that stayed the same where the movies. It was comforting to have a guarantee that no matter when I am in the world, I can always feel at home in a movie theater.
shared experience
A lot of movies I've seen have been with other people. Whether it's in a theater or at a friend's house, I love the shared experience of watching something in a group. It's cool to think that we all could be doing anything and we chose to watch this one movie together.
it's my thing
As silly as it may sound, I like that I'm the "movie person". Everybody should have their thing, mine just happens to be movies (and Tom Hardy).
