Howdy and welcome to my first recap!
#1 Bird Box
I know, I know -- I'm a little late in the game on this one. In my defense, I avoided this movie so I could add it to my list and write about it. It was not worth the wait. I don't even know what else to say about it because it is truly mediocre.
#2 New Year, New You
I only know of this movie's existence because I clicked the wrong tab while I was trying to watch 90 Day Fiance on Hulu. I recognized a few of the actresses and was honestly curious about what a New Year's based horror movie would entail, so I watched it. Based on the title and the ridiculously long intro (as seen on my Instagram story), I knew I was in for a confusing hour and a half. I was right.
About 30 minutes of the movie are shots of mirrors, which I am assuming is a metaphor for reflecting on yourself or whatever, but the amount of times I spent watching the main characters through mirrors is absurd. This movie left so many questions unanswered, but I don't even care about the questions, let alone the answers.
#3 Dumplin'
I absolutely loved this movie. It was funny, uplifting, and refreshing. Because it centers around a beauty pageant, I was surprised that there no stereotypical "cat fights". All of the women in the movie were their own people, they didn't serve another character's plot, which is rare. 10/10 would recommend.
#4 Support the Girls
I'm now realizing that I've been watching all female-led movies up to this point. Nice.
#5 Escape Room
So, I saw this movie in the theater and I need to go on a little rant: Why would you pay for movie tickets, drive to a theater, buy over-priced popcorn and soda, then ruin an entire theater's experience by talking the whole goddamn time? Why come to the movies if you're not interested in watching a movie? It honestly baffles me that people have the gall to talk at full volume while people are trying to watch a movie. Just shut up for two hours. I mean, honestly, is it that hard?
#6 Fahrenheit 451
I really want to enjoy this movie but I'm honestly still reeling at these teens that just wouldn't shut up last night. I have so many questions. Anyways, Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon are great actors, but this movie wasn't anything special for me.
Thanks for hanging in another week. If you hear any screaming in the distance tonight, it's because Bohemian Rhapsody won Best Picture at the Golden Globes and I don't think I'll be able to take it. Have a great week -- see ya next Sunday!
