Howdy! My mom told me to stop starting each of these with "howdy" -- so I'm doing it every single time.
This week is starting a little groggy for me since Ari (my cat) has committed to running around like an idiot at -- no kidding -- 2 AM every morning. Cats are great.
#28 Abducted in Plain Sight
Available on Netflix
True crime is probably one of my favorite genres to consume. Whether it's movies, podcasts, books -- I'm all but obsessed. In a lot of these stories, including this movie, it's hard not to judge the victim, especially the people around the victim, like their parents.
In every turn, the parents clearly messed up, but does the time, lack of knowledge, or even the fact that we (the audience) have never been through something like this absolve their mistakes?
Hindsight is 20/20, but what is foresight? I obviously don't know the answers to these questions, I just thought the topic was interesting and the ambiguity of the answers are disturbing.
#29 Baywatch
Available on Hulu
Since the last one was pretty heavy, I decided to watch something light -- something that didn't require much brain power. I made the perfect selection.
Baywatch wasn't terrible, but there's one thing I could have done without: the self-awareness. The movie was dumb, and it knew it was dumb (in the way 21 Jump Street and Deadpool were pretty good at), but it reminded us of its awareness every single chance it could. I didn't need Zac Efron to harp on the fact that they were mere lifeguards trying to do the cops' job -- I got it the first ten times they did it.
#30 Bill Murray: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man
Available on Netflix
A Bill Murray sighting seems to be explained exactly like the relationship advice I give: you'll find it when you're not even looking for it.
#31 Grizzly Man
Available on Amazon Prime
My "happy" movie streak ended with one of the saddest documentaries I've ever seen.
#32 Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Available on Netflix
Back to a happy movie! What I really loved about this movie was that they used every single second as a chance to make us laugh.
#33 After Everything
This week has been a real roller coaster of emotions for me. But this one was a lot more bleak than it was sad. I really liked how honest and sort of cynical it was about love.
#34 Wonder
Available on Hulu
This movie was fine and all, but the thing that I can't stop thinking about was that the older sister's name was Olivia, but they called her 'Via'.
Well that does it for another week. Thanks for sticking around -- and double thanks if you're reading this during the Super Bowl. See ya next Sunday!
