So I'm writing this on a Wednesday (spoiler alert: I'm not good at sitting down and writing every day) and I'm going to make a prediction: I'm going to post this on a Monday.
Here's why: I didn't realize that not only am I watching the 3-hour Avengers movie on Sunday, I'm also going to watch the 90-minute Game of Thrones episode. I hope I prove myself wrong and you're reading this on a Sunday evening. But if I'm right -- blame the aforementioned movie and TV show (No movie needs to be longer than an hour and 40 minutes, don't @ me).
#100 Someone Great
Available on Netflix
Three friends navigate dating and adult shit, but like in a funny, relatable way.
This movie was fine. There were a lot of elements I liked, but together it didn't really wow me. If you're bored and want to be entertained, this is a good movie to throw on while you scroll through your Instagram feed. But if you end up watching it, please set your phone down during Jaboukie Young-White's part. He's going to be a big star one day.
#101 The New Romantic
Available on Netflix
A journalist who is fed up with romance becomes a sugar baby and writes about it.
I loved this movie. In a world where everybody wants to have a fresh take, this is one of the few that does it well. It also didn't try to make us side with the main character. It showcased her without bias and made us decide how we felt.
I just wanted to interject the movie talk with some life talk -- last night I saw Emily King at Antone's and it was truly one of the best concerts I've ever been to. If you're into music at all, give her a listen.
By the way, when I add something that's not about movies, I'm going to make it a different color. I want to make it easier for people to scroll past my personal life if they truly do not give a shit.
#102 Book Club
Available on Hulu & Prime Video
A group of older women who decide to read Fifty Shades of Gray. There's a gray hair/old person joke there, but I'll let you think of it.
I loved the iconic cast in this movie and that they were allowed to be sensual, but overall -- not a great movie.
#103 Paper Year
Available on Netflix
We follow a young couple for a year after getting married on a whim.
This one was kind of bleh. For a movie about a marriage, I felt the main actors didn't have much chemistry. It felt like that show where they get married without meeting each other beforehand. I also have a weird pet peeve of people not doing a great job at acting drunk and exactly that happened.
#104 Body at Brighton Rock
An ill-prepared park worker finds a dead body after getting lost in the woods.
I was excited to see this one after reading it's synopsis when it premiered at SXSW, but it was pretty disappointing.
#105 Who Would You Take to a Deserted Island?
Available on Netflix
A group of friends play a game after celebrating their last day in their shared apartment with a night out. In a surprising twist, being drunk and playing a game where you chose your favorite person in the room doesn't end well.
I love a good drama, but this one felt like it'd be a better play.
#106 Border
Available on Hulu
A woman who can smell fear meets a man who's similarity in appearance to hers intrigues her.
I haven't seen a movie this strange in a long time. I really loved it, though. It felt very whimsical, but grounded.
#107 The Feels
Available on Netflix
A bachelorette weekend goes haywire as secrets get revealed in troubling ways.
I'm obsessed with movies where groups of friends go away for the weekend and shit goes down. The casting really helped it too.
#108 Tig Notaro Happy To Be Here
Available on Netflix
A stand-up special written and performed by Tig Notaro with a few surprises.
I've said it before, but I love dead-pan comics. I can't get enough of 'em.
#109 Avengers: Endgame
In theaters
A three-hour extravaganza with all your favorites -- iced-out purple boy, Robert Downey Jr. as himself, and friends.
I'm not going to spoil anything, so you're safe to keep reading. All I'll say is that just like most Marvel movies -- it's fine. It doesn't do anything extraordinary, but it gets the job done.
Also, I was right. Happy Monday, y'all!
