Howdy!

So I have a goal for this week. By the time I release this post, I would like to be caught up on my movies. As of today, Tuesday, May 14, I am 12 movies behind, so this week is going to be a mad dash to watch at least two movies everyday. Good luck to me, I guess?

#122 The Darkest Minds

Available on HBOGo

Like the Divergent Movie, but somehow worse.

This movie had everything a teen dystopia made in the 2010's felt like they were required to have: bad acting, teens falling in love after knowing each other for what seems like 2 days, and a cast of fantastic actors that were annoyingly misused.

#123 The Romantics

Available on Hulu

A group of friends gather for a wedding of two of their own. Old relationships and tension complicate their weekend.

The tone on this one was all over the place. One scene they were talking like normal people then the other they sounded like they were in a Shakespeare play.

I also really hated the ending. I guess this is a spoiler if you want to watch, but it's really not worth it. This ending was very ambiguous. And don't get me wrong -- I love an open ending, but this one felt lazy. For instance, Inception's end didn't really lay out what happened, but it gave you enough context and plot line that you could guess and explain why you thought that way. It makes for really interesting discussion but only because the filmmakers earned that discussion with details and good storytelling that spark imagination/inference.

In this movie, they just threw a whole bunch of nothing at you and said, "I don't know -- you figure it out." Not only do I not care enough to figure it out, I don't really know enough about the characters to do so.

#124 Say You Will

Available on Amazon Prime

Two teens in mid high school and college limbo (a.k.a. summer) deal with their family and personal issues while trying to also deal with their feelings for each other.

This is kind of the polar opposite of The Last Summer. It was dramatic, but in a realistic way.

#125 Fun Mom Dinner

Available on Netflix

Moms go out on a well-deserved nice dinner that turns into a wild night.

From the poster and the description of this movie, I thought it was going to be silly -- and it was, but in the best way. Watching this movie was truly a good time. I'll be adding it to my "watch on a shitty day" list.

#126 Beautiful Girls

Available on Hulu

A musician goes back to his hometown for a high school reunion.

I really hated this movie. It was creepy and clearly outdated.

#127 Good Sam

Available on Netflix

A reporter gets stuck with a story about a good Samaritan leaving large sums of money on stranger's door steps.

This movie was very cheesy, but that wasn't even the worst part. The worst part was how obvious the ending was from the very beginning. For somebody who wants to be a serious reporter, the main character missed every glaring clue.

#128 21 & Over

Available on Netflix

Three high school friends reunite to celebrate the 21st birthday of their youngest friend. But uh-oh, it just so happens to be the night before his big med school interview.

This movie was an absolute joke from beginning to end, but not the good kind. The kind that's offensive, but worst of all -- not funny.

Thanks for reading! I'm still trying to catch up (shocker, right?) so my new format is yet to be put in place, but I'm hoping to tell y'all about it soon. See ya next week!
